Seniors: Time Table
September
- Register for SAT/ACT (send scores to at least 4 colleges)
- Participate in SAT/ACT review sessions
- Participate in counselor conference: review credits for graduation and review credits required for college; receive unofficial copy of transcript, and process for sending transcripts to colleges/scholarship committees.
- Complete NCAA application and send transcript to NCAA Clearinghouse if did not do so during the summer after junior year (for Division 1 and Division II athletes).
- Write college essay
- Narrow selection of colleges from junior year
- Explore www.collegetours.com to get virtual college tours. Or, explore www.ecampustours.com
- Apply for admission to selected colleges (allow two (2) weeks-longer if a recommendation is required)
- If apply on-line to a college contact your counselor immediately
- Make sure SAT/ACT scores are sent to colleges that have been selected.
- Contact teachers to write letters of recommendation
- Develop a calendar (there are application deadlines)for sending college applications (some schools have Nov.1 and Dec. 1 –USC and Clemson—deadlines)
- In order to receive scholarship and college visit information, give student email address to Kim Sanders: ksanders@rnh.richland2.org
- If unsure of college major contact Kim Sanders (E-109)
- If working: contact Judy Giles in E-109 (School-To-Work Coordinator) to receive credit for working. Grade can help final GPA. Can earn up to 2 credits.
October/November
- College Application Assistance: Application Coffee Houses (Every Tuesday until 4:30pm in E109)
- Take final SAT/ACT in October
- Attend Ed Op college fair
- Attend financial aid workshop
- Take ASSET if applying to Midlands Technical College (apply on-line 1st)
January-May
- Complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as possible after January 1: 1st apply for a PIN www.pin.ed.gov then 2nd complete the FAFSA www.fafsa.ed.gov
- FAFSA workshop (free help completing the FAFSA) at Richland Northeast: 7 PM, Feb. 4, 2008
- Visit colleges where there has been acceptance
- Continue to look for scholarship opportunities
- Give Judy Gray a copy of all scholarship awards
- Keep grades up all year; 2nd semester grades can affect scholarship eligibility.
- Watch the mail for the Student Aid Report (SAR)—it should arrive three to six weeks after the FAFSA is filed.
- Compare financial aid packages from different schools (meet with financial office at accepted schools)
- Notify schools you will not attend of your decision
June
- Graduation rehearsal: seniors complete a final form that directs the school where to send final transcript and where to send diploma. If this form is not completed and given to Judy Gray no transcript will be sent to the selected college and/or no diploma will be sent.
