Summer School, Summer Programs, Summer Reading, summer—summer—summer

Registration for summer school 2008 will probably begin sometime in April. Historically, the information regarding location, cost and course offerings is published at this time. More will be posted as information is provided.

As summer program brochures arrive in guidance, the information is provided to Kim Sanders and is announced on the RNH morning news show. Kim Sanders sends out this information to students via email to those students who have provided her their email. For those students who would like to attend a summer program at a college or university, go to the school’s website and look for summer programs. For example, Clemson University sent guidance information regarding its summer programs for rising juniors (SAT prep) and rising seniors (Career Planning). Applications are due early in March. The Darla Moore School of Business is offering a summer program. See the guidance counselor. Later in the spring USC will publish summer programs in the State Newspaper. Check the USC website for summer programs. Again, many schools offer summer programs so check the website. There are usually summer programs located around the country for students interested in politics and medicine for example. Often these programs cost between $2500 and $4000. Last summer Providence Hospital offered a several week program for students considering a college major in the health professions. It was a highly selective program.

The summer reading list for the summer of 2008 has not yet been posted. Rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors will be expected to read a book on the list and be prepared for a test on the book the first week of school.
