The Career and Technology Education Department offers rigorous and relevant courses which prepare students for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, and high-demand careers. All courses are developed around 21st century technology and global work force standards and provide students with real world experience. These hands-on courses allow students the opportunity to explore career options, train for a future career, complete courses which may give credit on the post- secondary level and earn industry credentials and certifications.

Please note that English II students will take a mandatory End-of-Course (EOC) exam that contributes 20% to their final grade. This state-mandated assessment helps us measure student progress and ensure they've mastered the key concepts covered throughout the year. Our Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) program offers a unique and rewarding experience our students.  The curriculum goes beyond traditional classrooms, delving into citizenship, leadership development, and America's rich maritime heritage.  Students explore the significance of sea power, unravel the mysteries of navigation and meteorology, and gain firsthand knowledge of naval operations and seamanship.

But NJROTC is much more than just academics. The program instills core values like patriotism, respect for authority, and a sense of personal responsibility.  Through hands-on activities and leadership opportunities, cadets develop a strong sense of honor, self-reliance, discipline, and the ability to inspire others.  They gain valuable experience through leadership camps, visits to military bases and colleges, and community service projects.

The benefits of being a cadet are priceless.  Students develop a strong foundation in leadership skills, self-confidence, and discipline.  They hone their communication and collaboration abilities, all while learning valuable college planning skills like financial aid application and scholarship opportunities.  The program fosters a sense of accountability, time-management, and a commitment to serving the community.

Our NJROTC program is a shining example of excellence.  We are a Distinguished Unit Award recipient with Honors, the highest recognition bestowed by the U.S. Navy.  We consistently rank in the top 30% of NJROTC programs nationally, and hold the distinction of being the top program in both South Carolina and North Carolina.

Get your child moving and develop lifelong healthy habits in our Physical Education program! We believe physical activity is essential for overall well-being and academic success. All students are required to take Personal Health and Wellness, where they'll gain valuable knowledge about nutrition, fitness, and healthy lifestyle choices.

In addition, students must choose either PE 1 or JROTC 1. PE 1 classes provide a foundation in various physical activities and team sports, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship. JROTC 1 offers a unique blend of physical fitness and citizenship training, fostering leadership and discipline.

The good news is that physical education doesn't stop there! Students can take additional PE electives throughout their high school career. These electives allow them to explore specific activities they enjoy, further enhancing their fitness and developing new skills.  All PE credits, including electives, count towards graduation requirements, offering flexibility and encouraging a lifelong love of physical activity.

We achieve this through Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's specific needs. These plans go beyond academics, focusing on developing essential life skills like time management, study habits, self-advocacy, and even planning for life after high school. Our supportive staff provides direct instruction in these areas alongside academic support, empowering your child to reach their full potential and thrive in all aspects of their lives.

Does your child dream of exploring new cultures and expanding their horizons? Our World Language department offers exciting opportunities to learn Spanish, French, or Latin! Our classes integrate engaging materials and cultural experiences to meet national standards for Foreign Language Study. This means your child will develop skills in five key areas: communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities.

To maximize their learning, we recommend students take a minimum of two levels in the same language. This allows them to build a strong foundation and progress towards fluency. Additionally, whenever possible, taking language courses in consecutive semesters is ideal. This consistent exposure to the language helps solidify understanding and keep those new skills sharp!
